I've long associated natural beauty with musical beauty: my walks in the woods are accompanied by an internal original score and playing music evokes natural and varied imaginary landscapes. It is a rare pleasure for musical and natural beauty to exist independently outside of my mind at the same time: I invite you to join me for the first season of the Lake Lure Concert Series! I can’t imagine a better place for the mingling of musical and natural landscapes than the stunning Hickory Nut Gorge of western North Carolina.

On February 9 we’ll be treated to an eclectic mix of music by my good friends, Hazel Ketchum and John Holenko, performing on a variety of plucked instruments as The Hungry Monks. Expect anything from medieval music to Hazel’s original songs. I performed with Hazel for many years in the Rossignol Duo and know that we’ll have a evening of fabulous music making.

Ukrainian guitar virtuoso Marina Alexandra emigrated to the United States when she was 19 and studied with me at the University of South Carolina where she received her M.M. degree. She’s an outstanding musician who will delight you on her April 13 concert.

I am honored to be Artistic Director of this series and am looking forward to a fantastic first season and hope to continue the exploration of musical beauty in such a wonderful setting for many years in the future.
